Medical Product Outsourcing (MPO) Magazine hosted their conference event, MPO Summit, October 18-19, 2022 in Austin, TX this year. MedWorld Advisors not only attended the conference, but hosted a panel on Day 2 of the event. Co-Founder/Managing Director Dave Sheppard hosted Shifting Manufacturing: Is Nearshoring the Answer for MedTech?.

The pandemic spawned a good amount of discussion around the concept of nearshoring and reshoring for medical device manufacturers as a way to avoid the shortages and delays seen during the crisis. But as we move out of the pandemic, questions around ways to avoid shortages and delays continue to be front of mind. The panel discussed the likelihood that this is to happen, where might some target locations might be for manufacturers, what considerations should be kept in mind, and the factors that should be determined before a company makes any decisions. The discussion around this trend was topical as it could reshape the face of manufacturing in the next decade.
